Make Jesus Your Lord

God wants to be Lord of your life. Being Lord ruler means involvement in every area of it. Not just the spiritual (church) part. He wants you to surrender every area of your life to His rulership.

Ask yourself this question. “Have I shut him out of any area of my life?” Wait! Do not rush to an answer. Think about it for a moment. Examine every area of your life.

How will you know the answer? Reflect on the discussions you have with Him. Is there an area of your life that you try to manage on your own without His involvement? You know, that area where you never stop to consider Him. You never seek His guidance or speak with Him. If something comes up then you tackle it. You just do it! Then you are mute with Him about what happened. If that is the case, that is the area He isn’t Lord over.

So many times we only make Him Lord over the church stuff. Well until something happens that brings out the bad side of us.

“God, I need your  help with my work at church. Well until Brother So-and-So gets on my nerves. Then I will cuss him out. Thank you for saving me but I will handle that myself. You know I love you. He will not know what hit him. I know I will need your pardon but I will come to you then. I know you understand!”

“I am from XXX. That’s how we handle things. I am saved but God is working on me. You are messing with the wrong one.”

How about this popular saying, “Try Jesus, I got hands. 😂” Don’t we all do that sometimes?

I know these are an over-exaggeration of the point but I am sure you see where I am going. Even when it comes to God’s work there are areas that we exclude Him. He is welcomed to guide us and participate until someone crosses us or we get into a bad situation.

Connect to the Vine

Do you know that when you get God involved in any situation, just His presence and advice removes a lot of stress and unnecessary anxiety from you? You put Jesus in charge of the situation and you are less likely to become offended. Less likely to sin because you lost control of your anger. Far less likely to become stressed. People will be wondering why you are so calm in the face of overwhelming difficulty.

David said in Psalm 1 that the person who dwells in God’s presence will be prosper in everything they do. Dwelling in God’s presence is not just about locking yourself away in prayer. It involves communicating with Him constantly.

Jesus gave us the formula for prosperity. Stay connect to Him. In John 15 verse 5 he used the situation of a branch receiving nourishment from a vine to illustrate this point. Once a branch gets separated from its vine it withers, dies and will be discarded into the fire. We are the branch. He is the true vine. He doesn’t want us to wither away. We are to always stay connected to Him. When we do we will thrive and be fruitful.

John 15:5

5 I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.

6 If a person does not dwell in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken-off] branch, and withers; such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire, and they are burned.

7 If you live in Me [abide vitally united to Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.

8 When you bear (produce) much fruit, My Father is honored and glorified, and you show and prove yourselves to be true followers of Mine.

If there is an area of your life where He is not Lord you need to correct that right now. You need his supply!

Make Him Lord

He doesn’t want to be a Lord that only has a title. You know, one of those aristocrats who become Lord by heritage with control over an area of land or someone appointed to a high government office or church body. Those Lords who are far removed from the people they serve. Completely disconnected with very limited interaction with those who they serve. Your heavenly Father does not want that kind of relationship. You are His child. He wants to be your Father first and foremost. And your Lord. He wants to be involved involved in every area of your life; A constant companion and Counsellor.

Building that relationship requires deliberate effort on your part. What effort you ask?  Don’t worry I won’t leave you hanging. Here are some tips to guide you.

  1. Repent. He cannot be Lord of your life unless you extend the invitation. Make no excuse for failing to do that. You may have done it in ignorance. That’s Okay. Still repent. Confess your fault for not including Him in every area of your life.
  2. Invite Him into every area of your life. You can be general or be very detailed with the request. It doesn’t matter just invite Him to take charge of every area of your life.
  3. Practice talking to Him about every area of your life each day. There is no need to wait until you get into the prayer closet. You can talk to Him as you go about your day. He can hear your thoughts. Talk to Him as a son/daughter would talk to their father. You do not need to be formal. Share your thoughts, feelings, desires, hopes, etc. Seek advice for every area of your life. Always ask for his assistance. Listen to the advice you receive. Be sure to act on it.

That’s it! It’s as simple as 1-2-3.

Grow Gradually

Now be patient with the process. It takes time to become used to including your heavenly Father in every area of your life.

I promise you. You will not regret it! I cannot tell you how many times He has saved me from my own actions or the actions of others. I have earned money, avoided losses of money, avoided betrayal, received warning about the evil being plotted by someone, and impending danger because He warned me. I have become a better person, just by following His guidance. He’s taught me to look beyond their bad actions by showing their wounds and the goodness of their heart.

I will let you in on a little secret. This is one of the ways prophets constantly hear from God. They make Him Lord of their life. It’s not just for us. It’s available to you also.

Jesus tore the veil so we may come boldly before the throne of God. Your Father wants you to come right in. Climb up on His lap and have a heart to heart conversation with Him.

You may not have that with your natural parent(s). That’s alright. He is always ready to talk to you. Why don’t you start the conversation right now. Your loving Father is waiting to hear from you.

Don’t know how to start? You can start by speaking to God about the Bible. Another great resource you may use is the book The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence. The book is in the public domain and is available free of charge for digital download on Amazon or a reputable and secure Christian website.
