John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Luke 3:16
The Greek word for baptism is baptisma meaning to submerge, to immerse in water. When John, the baptist, came on the scene he did something new. He preached the gospel of repentance from sins. His words was so persuasive that it caused thousands to come to him to be baptized. The stubborn, religious leaders, the Pharisees, Sadducees, and Scribes came. The rulers came. Servants came. People of all economic background came to be submerged in water. The act showed our Lord’s redeeming work to forgive sin and was a prophetic act to show what was coming.
He did not want them to be satisfied with simply being baptised. Greater was to come. The Greater One was coming on the scene. He would bring fire. He came. He paid the price for us to receive this gift.
His name is Jesus Christ. He was crucified on the cross. He died and was buried but he did not remain dead. He rose again. For his sacrifice to redeem us He was given the promise of the Father. He was given the fire of the Holy Spirit to release to us.
We now have the benefit of His glorious threefold baptism. First we must confession our sin and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Then we must be submerged in water for the cleansing of our sins. Submersion is both a symbolic and spirit act of being washed by the blood of our risen savior. By baptism we become like Him. We become participants in his death, burial and resurrection. Like Him we are raised with a new life (2 Corinthians 5:17). Our life becomes hidden in him; hidden in the glorious river of the Holy Spirit.
This river is filled with the fire of God. The passion of our Father is all consuming. His love burns bright for us. It is uncontainable, limitless and unchanging. He desires that our passion for him is similar. To ensure we overcome our struggle to maintain it He sends fire.
We must grab hold of this fire and never let it go.
In greek mythology Prometheus gave fire to men and was punished. God gives us Fire is given for various reasons. These include:
- It comes to remove impurities. Like fire that purifies gold and silver, so does the fire of God purifies us. It removes the stains of sin from us. It makes us perfect as He is perfect.
- It burns hot. God wants us to burn hot for Him. We must be consumed by our love and desire for Him. The word from our lips should be “more God, more of you”.
- The Fire spreads. It cannot be contained. Once it is released it consumes everything in its path. This fire makes you speak
- The fire of God gives us spiritual authority.
- It will make you dominate in your sphere of life. Any endeavor you undertake for the Kingdom. Be it in business, finance, education, entertainment, media, charities, etc.
Your fire must burn bright. God loves a burning fire. He loves when you burn with his glory like the burning bush.The brightness of the flame will affect others around us. They will be drawn to the fire. ‘Like moths drawn to a flame’. They will burn. God’s fire will bring liberty. They will be set free.
Grab hold of this blessing. Cry out for fire. Cry out to God. Lord give me fire. Let me burn bright for the Kingdom. Let me draw all men to you.
When you do God will respond by fire.

Prayer
Father thank you for the fire. Thank you for the Holy Fire of your Spirit. Lord as you did on the day of Pentecost give me fire to do your work. Let your fire consume me, so that I may speak as the oracle of God. So that I may lay hands on the sick and they recover, heal the deaf and they hear, the deaf will hear, the dead will be raised, minister to the brokenhearted and they are set free. So that your words will be shared with everyone. Please give me fire to destroy the works of the enemy of our soul. Give me fire Father! In the name of Christ Jesus let your fire fall on me! Thank you for hearing my heart’s cry. Thank you for answering by fire.
