Wow!

I cannot believe what I am learning about John Wesley’s spiritual encounters. I worshiped in a Methodist church as a teenager but never knew that the founder had supernatural experiences throughout his ministry.

As I read The Complete Works of John Wesley volume 1 today I was amazed that he operated with apostolic authority. Signs and miracles followed his ministry. He was a simple man who dedicated his life to the relentless pursuit of the work of the Lord Jesus. He traveled for miles on horseback to preach the gospel. As he did he performed deliverance when necessary.

The spirit of God bore witness to the Word of God several times. He saw healings, miracles, people being filled with the Holy Spirit, people being delivered from the demonic oppression and possession and other supernatural occurrences.

I wonder why this was not taught to the congregations. Why is this not made known in theological seminaries? If we do not study the fullness of church history we will be mislead to believe that what we see now is what obtained in the past.

I was always amazed by the spiritual depth of the hymns written by his brother Charles Wesley. Something about those hymns always stirred me deeply as a teenager. I didn’t just sing them. I felt the love of God very often during service. I couldn’t explain it then but there was a stirring that I felt inside me as we sung them. I couldn’t wait to sing some of these hymns on Sundays. I still do. Now I understand that it was spiritual worship in me that was waiting to find an expression. I am talking about hymns that spoke of the majesty of God. To have written more than 6,000 hymns is quite an amazing feat. Surely Charles Wesley was blessed with prophetic songs directly from heaven.

The Prophesy

As we go forward into the new move of God. The old will walk with the new. These hymns will see a rebirth. These ministries are going to see the supernatural power of God again. The Methodist church will not be neglected.

The prayers of John and Charles Wesley will be answered by God. His Spirit will visit the assembly with the fire of the Holy Spirit. His glory will be among the saints once again. It will not be a few odd branches that experience the power of the Holy Spirit. It will spread through the entire denomination. God will answer the prayers of His servant.

The devil has had his way. Now is the time for the move of God. Darkness was upon the church. The church stood against the assault. It struggled onwards. At times its future looked bleak. Many fell. Some kept praying. Some lamented as they saw the beauty turn to ashes.

“Now (says the Lord) I will raise up my church from the ashes. The cries of My servant shall not go unanswered”.

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
