During October 2011 God revealed himself to me in a marvelous way. It was a normal bright and sunny day. I was getting my day started not knowing what God had in store. He was about to blow my mind! Now I want you to journey with me as I share a portion of my experience in the Presence of God. So many things happened that I couldn’t even put it all in this article. But I will do my best to share it all. The rest will be detailed in my upcoming book Encounters in the Supernatural.
I had very much appreciated going to church. It wasn’t the fellowship that drew me. It was experiencing Abba, Father, in another environment besides my home. Most of the brethren did not embrace me. I am not sure why but I did not allow that to stop me from going to experience God.
Since committing my life to the Lord Jesus Christ, I was experiencing waves of his love during prayer. Nothing about those moments were ordinary. He was revealing himself over and over again. I was seeing, hearing and experiencing spiritual things that were at times frightening but exciting at the same time. Part of me wanted to run. To simply stop praying. Stop talking to God. But like a moth to a fire I was drawn by the security, purity and intensity of His love that I felt during those moments.
My experience with some of the brethren made me want to stay home and never go out to fellowship. Communication with them was very cold at times. I didn’t feel the love of God. I preferred just staying at home. The experience only made me want to fellowship with family and a few close friends. But God was pulling me to something bigger than that.
I didn’t want to go but I knew God was pulling me into a deeper place with Him. He was pulling me deeper to reveal his love to his people through me. At that time I didn’t know that was what He was doing.
Earlier that morning God had spoken to me in a very powerful way. The experienced left me shaken and stirred. What could top that?
Expectation Releases Glory
The church was having a Crusade that evening. Anticipation of the word from the Lord was evident in the atmosphere. The expectance was for a mighty move of God. This little Methodist boy had no such hope. It was all new for me.
“Perhaps He would speak to me during service. What would be different about that?” I was about to find out.
Service started with the usual prayer and exhortations. The choir was called on to lead us in worship. The Praise Team started out with lots of energy and joy in their worship. The energy was in the room. It pulled me to join in the praise. The Praise team leader did not hold back. She knew the assignment. And brought it! She worshipped from the depths of her being. As they led we responded in like manner. No saint held back their worship. Some saints worshiped in other tongues while some of us repeated the song. Hands were lifted in adoration to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He was the central focus. Jesus was being honored for who He is.
Now at this time, I had not yet received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. During times of worship and prayer I felt the power of the Holy Spirit come on me. In this moment, I had a different experience than I was used to. While I sang, I felt something circular and very heavy object placed on my head. No sooner had this invisible crown touched my head than I began saying “Hallelujah!” repeatedly. Those words flowed with the forceful rush of water from a ruptured dam.
Worship continued for a prolonged period. The power of God was not diminishing. Several times the Praise Team tried to stop but couldn’t. Over and over they continued signing the same song.
To observe protocol and the set agenda the minister conducting the service decided to take charge. He stepped to the podium. Waited a moment. Then requested that the saints quiet down. So that the Preacher may deliver the message. We were deeply disappointed but complied.
As soon as the Preacher stepped to the podium, the power of God came on me in a new way. Unimaginable power surged through my body. Suddenly I heard these words thunder from my mouth.
“LET THE ANOINTING FLOW!”
The voice was much like the one I heard earlier during the morning. This time it was not outside of me but coming from deep within me. God amplified the sound. It filled the entire church. Everyone froze. I was shocked!
“Was that my voice?”
I had never ever spoken before with such power and authority prior to this moment. Now I can be really loud. Years living with my grandmother in rural Jamaica, performing on the choir and in annual church plays had taught me how to project my voice into a large room. This was different. Everyone in the service could have spoken at once but they would still hear the voice very loud and clear. That was how loud the words echoed throughout the church. God was speaking.
“What just happened?” I thought.
I could see the Pastor at the podium. He paused. Closed his Bible. Stepped back. Bowed his head. All without uttering a word.
God responded immediately. A wave of His glory swept through the church. Every saint who had received the baptism of the Holy Spirit suddenly began speaking in their heavenly tongues. Some sang in their heavenly language. Without prompting, all hands went into the air. Children, even babies, responded in this same manner. Tears began streaming down their faces as their heads turned upwards. Their little hands shook as they held it up. Jesus was being magnified by all.
Some youths took off running. They were not playing. Not for one bit! The Holy Spirit had moved upon them to run. We knew at that moment the Holy Spirit was now directing the congregation.
My spirit kept declaring “Hallelujah! Hallelujah!…Hallelujah!” as I continued in worship.
Seeing Angels in Warfare
I was standing in the second row of the balcony, overlooking all that was happening in the church. Without warning my head arched back. My eyes became fixed on the middle of the ceiling. In a split second the roof disappeared. I saw the stars, the heavenly bodies, the expanse and blackness of deep space.
Then I saw many angels flying in a circular motion around the opening above the roof. Even though it seemed like they were just above the roof, I knew they were far away in the heavens. Each angel was dressed in a long white robe. In their hands they had a long glistening sharp sword. Round and a round they flew. I also saw numerous large ugly and distorted winged creatures attempting to fly down through the opening but the angels attacked them. Both creatures clashed in an epic battle.
I stood with my eyes transfixed at the splendor of the battle. God was protecting us from the attacks of the host of darkness.
Slowly the vision faded. Once again I was aware of the activities in the church. No music pumped the people. God was doing an individual work on each person. People were laying on and around the altar. The leaders were not sitting solemn and silently in their high chairs. They were down on their knees praising God. The choir was not singing. They too were under the power of the Holy Spirit. The band had a new assignment. Pure worship without an instrument. These spirit-filled men were moving and worshipping God with stammering lips and their heavenly language.
After two or three more hours the move of the Holy Spirit subsided. I staggered out of the building. Quickly said goodbye to my friends. Located my car. And drove home in silence. My mind was trying understand all that had happened. God had blown my mind for sure.
I thought He was finished…but He had more.
Suffer The Little Children
When I got home, while still reflecting on what happened earlier during the service, I quickly got ready for bed. Whew! It was almost midnight. God was merciful. Deep sleep came immediately as my head hit the pillow.
Matthew 9:13,14
14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
13 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.
While I slept God showed me what happened to the children during the service and their destiny. In a dream I saw myself back in church. The building was well lit. All the children were there. They were having a wonderful time of fun. All were engaged in various games. They ran, jumped, sang, swirled and laughed as they played. As we know how children normally do.
On their heads were flames of fire. Some flames were blue, some red, some yellow and some orange. The children burnt with the holy fire of God but they were not injured or in pain. They were having the time of their life. I knew I was seeing something similar to what Moses witnessed on the mountain in the wilderness. The angel of the Lord had caused the bush to blaze with fire but it did not burn the tree. When he turned to look God spoke to Him.
Exodus 3:1-4
1 Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. 3 And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.” 4 When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”
As I looked, the voice of God then took me around the room. Suddenly I was seeing each child face-to-face as he or she played. God was showing me who that child was in the Kingdom of heaven. He called the child’s name and spoke about the wonderful destiny He has planned for that child.
As I reflect on this event, I now understand that when you surrender your will to the will of the Father you will truly experience his glory. This is what we will see and experience with this next generation. God will release his holy fire on His people. The children will not be left out. Many will do great exploits on the earth.
