Do Not Despise Your Heart

Some of you despise the heart God gave you. May I encourage you to continue to operate with the gentleness, meekness and love that God has blessed you with.

Like iron sharpening iron the words of my dear wife Tameika Reginald, has sparked insight into leading God’s way. This is what she wrote recently on Facebook:

“Last night as I was laying in bed. The Holy Spirit said to me that being loud and assertive does not  make you a leader. It just makes you obvious to eyes and ears. Meekness is  power. Jesus was very meek in his walk and ministry.

Isn’t this true of how the Kingdom operates and how the world leads. We see in scripture that very often the first nation of Israelites rebelled against Moses. Do you think they would have done this to Pharaoh? Nope! They would have been far too scared of him. Just raising their voice would be instant death. Moses though was very different. Everyone felt his demeanor made him soft. Someone who could easily be opposed. A perfect counter to brutal and deadly leadership style of Pharaoh. Most of the people mistook it for weakness.

Moses was the meekest person on earth (Exodus 12:3). Google dictionary defines this as ‘quiet, gentle, and easily imposed on; submissive’. No wonder the people thought it was OKAY for them to say and do whatever they wanted. Unfortunately their inability to understand the ways of God led to their death.

When we look at the ministry of Jesus we do see a similar  gentleness and mildness that made him seem like someone easily moved by the wind (Isaiah 42:1-3). No wonder the Pharisees, Sadducees and Sanhedrin Council opposed him so vehemently. If you examine the ministry of Jesus you would see that he displayed great natural and supernatural power, wisdom and knowledge. That begs the question. Why weren’t they religious leaders afraid of him?

I believe the answer lies in his gentle nature. It was so disarming they felt empowered to oppose him all the time. Ultimately that their actions led to their ruin. Foxe’s Book of Martyrs tells of the horrible things that happened to the Chief Priest, Pilate and all those who were consensual in his death. Make no mistake God’s judgement may take time but it comes on the wicked (Psalm 37:35-36).

As I further contemplated the revelation my wife received, I understood why some leaders have such a hard time with some of the people they lead. The world indoctrinates us to think leadership is best performed with a tough as nails personality. When you do not tolerate people questioning your authority. When you rule with an iron hand that is idealized as the epitome of excellent leadership. Unfortunately it falls very short of God’s way. He desires his shepherds to reflect his nature. Love. Gentleness. Meekness. Patience. Being very slow to anger.

Let’s not be mistaken the wrath of God is fierce. Very dreadful to see. It takes tremendous control to remain gentle. Especially when you know what you are capable of doing. I believe Jesus was entrusted with the fullness of God’s glory that a man may operate with because he could be trusted to not abuse or misuse the anointing. If he lacked control many would have died the moment they opposed him.

Pastors and church leaders please continue to operate with meekness. Continue to be uniquely you. Show the grace of God under the most trying of circumstances. When others take the low road, remain on the high road. Continue to display the nature of God in your conduct. Resolve the situation as how He would. Place what you cannot change in His hands.

Remain authentically you. Continue to pray for the people. Especially those who hurt, abuse, reject and mistreat you. Please do not allow yourself to become bitter or deeply wounded. God gives grace to the lowly. In the process of time He will redeem. He will restore. He will compensate you. He is your great reward.

Your gentleness is needed. Fractured hearts will always need you. Do not be afraid to show God’s love.

Be blessed.
